The Foreign Language Department believes that the study of foreign language broadens a student's educational horizon and equips him or her with a marketable skill. Exposing the student to a foreign culture leads him to a greater appreciation and awareness of his own culture. The major goals of language study are:
- To understand native speech spoken at a normal speed on a subject within the listener's realm of experience.
- To speak sufficiently well in order to make communication in the foreign language possible with a native on a subject within the speaker's language experience.
- To read with reasonable comprehension material on a general subject which is logical to the reader's language study.
- To write with no conscious reference to English so that the student totally understands, with specific language structures being skillfully executed.
