  • Soaps for Terranova

Here is a way you can help our sister school in Zambia, Africa!

Here is a way you can help our sister school in Zambia, Africa! If you have unused soaps, hair conditioners and shampoos, or other small travel items you have collected, they need them. These products are the perfect size for the staff at the Julia Burke Medical Clinic at the Terranova School to hand out to their community.

It may be hard to believe, but in their world, soap is a special thing. Your help will be greatly appreciated and Mr. Dietz (MS assistant principal) thanks you from the kids at Terranova School. Please gather these new items and drop them off at the Middle School front desk.

  • Hands for Terranova

As some of you may be aware, Woodward Academy has a sister school, the Terranova School in Mazabuka, Zambia. Every year, the Woodward community works to contribute funds, books, various technology items and other supplies to the school located on a coffee farm run by Colin and Alison Street.

During the Week of Understanding, our Student Council representatives collected $5 from students. Each student making a contribution has signed a paper hand that is being displayed on a board at Woodward North. Thank you to those who supported the Terranova School.

  • Woodward North Students Make Pinwheels for Peace

Woodward North students in Karen Clegg's third through sixth grade art classes celebrated International Day of Peace by participating in the Pinwheels for Peace project, a worldwide art installation project started in 2005 by two art teachers in Florida as a way for students to express their feelings about what's going on in the world and in their lives. They chose the pinwheel because it represents childhood and serves as a reminder of times when things were simple, joyful and peaceful.

The project was quickly embraced by schools everywhere and by millions of teachers, parents, children and adults who desire peace in our world. Five hundred thousand pinwheels were planted the first year of the project, and his year more than three million pinwheels were estimated to be spinning in countries everywhere. Woodward North students were excited to contribute to this project and to spin their pinwheels to spread thoughts and feelings about peace throughout the country, and throughout the world.
