About the Primary School

Located in College Park, Georgia, the Woodward Academy Primary School’s mission is to meet children where they are, academically, socially and emotionally, so that they can be happy and successful. Everything we do is geared to the young child. By providing a nurturing, loving and engaging learning environment, children are encouraged to explore, create and collaborate.  Implementing authentic learning, developing critical thinking skills and building a support between school and home are our goals for each child and his/her family.

We currently have four sections of kindergarten – second grades. Our third grade consists of five sections along with two third grade transition classes. We look forward to offering a pre-kindergarten program for the 2012–2013 school year. All Primary School students participate in science, two classes per week for kindergarten – second grades and three times per week for third grade students.

Physical education is a very important part of a Primary School student’s schedule with five classes each week, and dance is offered twice a week for children in first – third grades. Our students enjoy art and music twice per week, and Spanish, library and computer classes are offered once a week. Our students explore and utilize a wide range of technology applications such as interactive Smartboards, PCs, iPods, iPads, MacBooks, Lego Robotics, etc.  Many extracurricular activities are available to Primary School students such as Spanish Club, Boy and Girl Scouts, chess, tennis, piano, martial arts and golf. Third grade students have the opportunity to participate in additional activities which include Primary Singers, Character Builders and intramural sports that include volleyball, basketball, swimming and soccer. 

Our teachers are dedicated, creative professionals who understand the needs of the young child.  They foster a sense of peace and stability in our home-like environment. Our very low teacher to student ratio enables us to meet the individual needs of each student.
