About the Primary School
The Woodward Academy Primary School’s mission is to meet children where they are, academically, socially and emotionally, so that they can be happy, successful, and prepared for what is ahead. Everything we do is geared to the young child. By providing a nurturing, loving, and engaging learning environment, children are encouraged to explore, create, and collaborate. Implementing authentic learning, developing critical thinking skills, and building a support between school and home are our goals for each child and his/her family.
We currently have two sections of PreK, five sections of kindergarten, four sections of first through third grades and two third grade Transition classes. All Primary School students participate in science. Physical education is an extremely important part of a Primary School student’s schedule with five classes each week, and dance is offered twice a week for children in first through third grades. Students enjoy art and music twice per week, and Spanish, library, and computer classes are offered once a week. Our students explore and utilize a wide range of technology applications such as interactive Smartboards, PCs, iPods, iPads, MacBooks, Lego Robotics, etc. Many co-curricular activities are available to Primary School students such as Spanish Club, Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts, chess, tennis, piano, martial arts, and golf. Third grade students have the opportunity to participate in additional activities which include Primary Singers, Character Builders, and intramural sports that include volleyball, basketball, swimming and soccer.
Our teachers are dedicated, creative professionals who understand the needs of the young child. They foster a sense of peace and stability in our home-like environment. Our low teacher to student ratio enables us to meet the individual needs of each student.
