Our goal at the Primary School library is to help patrons locate and obtain material, both printed and digital, for pleasure reading, for personal interest, or for research projects. The library offers a print collection of over 7,000 books and a "virtual library" with ebooks, audio books, encyclopedias, and databases accessible to all members of the Woodward community.

  • A Note to Parents

    Dear Parents,

The library program has some exciting opportunities in store for your child this year:

    • Our curriculum will be promoting the very best of children's literature to your child with activities designed to help student's enjoy the stories even more.
    • We will be doing our very best to get (or keep) your children "hooked on reading" by recommending specific reading materials to each individual.
    • At each grade level, students will be learning research and computer skills specifically suited to their developmental needs.
    • The new iPads in the library will be available for reading e-books this year!
    • We have a lot of special events being planned, including author visits, a book fair, and reading promotions.
    • If you would like to volunteer to help in the library, please let me know. We'd love to have you.

    PS Librarian-Media Specialist,
    Mrs. Larisa McMichael ext 3520

  • Library Classes and Check-Out

Students visit the library each week for regularly scheduled classes. Throughout the school year, students learn valuable library skills, how to access and use our many digital resources, research skills, successful book selection, readers theatre, working with puppets and more!

Students in PK - 2nd choose two print books each week to enjoy at home. We provide a clear library bag for easy carry and protection. Please encourage your child to enjoy the books and return them and the bag each week on or before their scheduled library day. 3rd graders visit the library often in addition to their regular library class and are trained to be independent, responsible library users. Overdue notices are sent home periodically. Thank you for your support!

  • Accelerated Reader

At the Primary School, students in grades 1-3 participate in the Accelerated Reader program. Each student has an individual goal. Please encourage your child to work in earnest toward making the goal! Students with healthy daily reading habits should easily accomplish the goal when reading within their book level range.

AR Bookfind (http://www.arbookfind.com/) is a great resource! Search for books of interest to your child to see a brief description of the book and the book level. Search for books in the 'advanced' setting to pinpoint areas of interest. You can help your child expedite the quizzing process at school by helping to record the quiz number to send in with the book. Most PS library books have the quiz number written on the inside cover.

  • More Library Resources Available

We are pleased to announce new subscriptions to One Click Audio and Axis 360. At One Click, accessible from the PS Library web page, students may select from hundreds of audio books. Selections may even be downloaded to portable devices! At Axis 360, students have access to dozens of ebooks. For login information, please contact Mrs. McMichael, Primary School Librarian-Media Specialist via email or ext 3520.

  • Tumblebooks is Fun!

Your child can visit http://www.tumblebooks.com/ and enjoy being read to aloud (read aloud function may also be disabled). Most students know the username and password, but if you need it, please email your child's teacher or Mrs. McMichael.
