Physical Education

Our Physical Education Department promotes physical fitness and healthy life decisions, making a major impact on our students' quality of life. We want our students to develop a healthy lifestyle now, creating habits and gaining knowledge that will continue to benefit them throughout their lives.

Mr. Minor teaches P.E. and health and serves as head varsity coach for baseball and boys varsity track. He holds an M.A. from the United States Sports Academy and a B.A. from Wofford College.

P.E. Curriculum

Physical Education

This semester course covers physical fitness testing and sports including floor hockey, basketball, volleyball, softball, soccer, tennis, archery, and golf. Health is taught one day a week during a classroom session, addressing such topics as self-esteem, mental health, coping with stress, personal hygiene, nutrition, weight control, tobacco and drug use, setting up an exercise program, diseases and disorders of the body, and CPR certification.

Physical Education for Sport

This semester course covers all phases of personal fitness, strength training, endurance training, and flexibility as well as different types of aerobic and anaerobic training. Health is taught in a weekly classroom session, covering topics such as self-esteem, mental health, coping with stress, personal hygiene, nutrition, weight control, tobacco and drug use, setting up an exercise program, diseases and disorders of the body, and CPR certification. This course is designed to provide student-athletes with an opportunity for training in strength, speed, and flexibility during the school day without missing practice time in the afternoons. The course also gives Upper School students an alternative to team sports P.E. courses.
