Service Clubs

Important Notes Concerning Service Clubs:

Of the four service clubs (Interact, Junior Civitan, Key Club and Excel), students
may join only ONE.

A member of any of the four service clubs may be eligible to earn up to the 20 required contract hours by actively participating in supervised activities. The club sponsor can award hours for participation in all major projects. No student receives hours for attendance at club meetings.

Members are also eligible for a Service Club Award of Merit to be given annually to one member of each of the four service clubs deemed by the sponsor to have contributed the most to the benefit of the club and its programs. Any Upper School student (grades 9-12) is eligible for this award.

Excel Club

The Excel Club, whose motto is Helping Children EXCEL Toward a Brighter Future, is actively involved in activities which benefit children.  Projects include weekly visits to the Jesse Draper Boys and Girls Club to work with the kids on arts, crafts, and learning projects, participation in the AIDS Walk and the Jesse Draper Walk-a-thon, sponsorship of Woodward's participation in the Juvenile Diabetes Walk and Fundraising Drive.   Members also join forces with other service clubs for such projects as Habitat and the Atlanta Food Bank.  Active members of the EXCEL club have many opportunities to learn firsthand the value and rewards of service to others and to the community.  All new members are welcome and encouraged to be involved.

Interact Club

The Interact Club is a junior branch of Rotary International, one of the largest service clubs in the world.  The Woodward Interact chapter works closely with Airport Area Rotary Club to foster awareness of global problems as well as community concerns.  Students are encouraged to participate in many activities throughout the school year, including two American Red Cross Blood Drives, weekly mentoring at the Boys & Girls Club, plus joint projects with other service clubs.  Throughout the year, the Interact club raises money for local, national, and international charities such as the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. Interact is an opportunity to serve others and to explore the diversity of the world. New members from grades 9 through 12 are encouraged to join and become active leaders.

Junior Civitan Club

The Junior Civitan Club is a service organization that encourages students toward good citizenship and  leadership development.  The club is actively  involved in projects which benefit the community. Each year Jr. Civitan sponsors a school-wide effort to collect cans and other food items to benefit local agencies in the College Park/ East Point area. The club also sponsors "Secret Santa," a program that helps families with gifts for children during the holiday season.  Students may be involved by working in a downtown soup kitchen or may dress as clowns as the "Clown-for-a-Day" at area nursing homes. The club is open to all students who want to be involved in  a great service club.

Key Club

Key Club is the largest high school service organization in the world. Woodward Academy's active Key Club encourages students to become involved in their school   and community.  Projects such as  tutoring at Hapeville Elementary School, AIDS walk, the Jesse Draper Boys & Girls Club walkathon, Data Match, and visits to Park Haven Care Center give each member an opportunity to participate.  Participation in Key Club service activities will help develop initiative, leadership, and good citizenship.  New members are welcome.
