Upper School Office Summer Hours

The Upper School offices will be open on Monday-Thursday from 8:00 am until 3:00 pm during the month of June. The offices will be closed on Fridays in June. The Upper School offices will be closed from July 2 through July 20 and will re-open on July 23 with the summer hours. Please keep in mind, if your student will be getting their Georgia driver's license or learner's permit, they must have an attendance form from the front office. Please plan accordingly to pick up your attendance form in June if your student will take the test during the month of July. Thank you.

To access WALive, go to www.woodward.edu/360 and click on the WALive link on the right. After an event has aired live, only segments are shown on the WALive channel for viewing on demand. DVD copies of most events will be available to Woodward families through WATV within days following the live program. To reserve copies of DVDs, please email watv@woodward.edu

Edline Accounts

It is very important that all parents and students review their Edline accounts for the Upper School to ensure that their log-in information is current. Take a moment to log into your Edline account and go to "Address/Email Changes" under "Links" to make any changes or updates. If you have any questions about Edline, please contact Nneka Robinson at 404.765.4128 or nneka.robinson@woodward.edu.

Below are links to six short videos to help you through various Edline topics:

  • Uniforms must be kept neat and in good repair.
  • All outerwear must be school-approved attire.
  • Skirt lengths for the ladies are to be no shorter than three inches above the knee.
  • Gentlemen must be clean-shaven.

Security Reminder

Parents' Top Ten List

Are you concerned about how your child is doing? Please review the following suggestions for how to best help your student in their current studies.

1. Do you have an Edline account and are you checking it? On Edline you can find: homework assignments, quiz, test and other graded requirements, schedules and information, review sheets and teacher email addresses. Teachers often send class emails with important information through Edline.

2. Is your child doing the homework assignments posted on Edline? Does the student have a regular time and space to do homework? Are distractions (music, TV, instant messaging, telephones) limited? Do you see the completed homework?

3. Has your child discussed any difficulties in class with a teacher? Teachers can help with study and test-taking strategies, note-taking and extra help with skills or concepts.

4. Is your child attending tutorials for the class? Is your child going to the first available tutorial when he or she doesn't understand the skills or concepts taught that day? Are they arriving at the beginning of tutorial and staying to the end? Are they asking the teacher for help during tutorial? Are they using the tutorial time to begin homework?

5. Have you made tutorials for the class mandatory for your child until their performance improves? Check with the grade level counselor for a weekly student evaluation sheet. The sheet has space for recording student attendance and a space for teacher initials.

6. Have you contacted the teacher with your questions or concerns? E-mail and telephone numbers for teachers can be found in the quicklinks of the school web site under the faculty directory. It's beneficial if your child has already attended tutorial before you contact the teacher. Tutorials often give the teacher insight he or she would not otherwise have.

7. Have you asked the counseling office for a peer tutor to assist your child? Peer tutors are students in good standing and have shown an interest in and aptitude for tutoring in a particular subject.

8. If you still have questions and concerns, have you contacted the grade level counselor? Grade level counselors can help by providing strategies for student success and providing academic guidance. Student/Parent/Teacher conferences are set up by the grade level counselor.

9. If you still have questions or concerns, have you scheduled a meeting with the grade level counselor, teacher and your child? Conferences are positive and proactive in nature. The goal of meeting together is to help the student make a workable plan for success.

10. Have you sought an outside tutor? A list of tutors is available through your grade level counselor. This should be a last resort. You are encouraged to try the previous suggestions first.

US Service News

  • Junior Selected as Finalist for Woodrow Wilson Service Award

Woodward Academy junior Mary Helen deGolian was selected as one of six finalists for the Woodrow Wilson Community Service Award, given by the Princeton Club of Georgia. Mary Helen was chosen for her volunteer work of teaching a dance class at the Jesse Draper Boys & Girls Club in East Point.

Established in 1985, the Woodrow Wilson Community Service Award honors Atlanta area high school juniors who, through community involvement and personal initiative, best exemplify the ideals of service and volunteerism espoused by Woodrow Wilson, former President of the United States of America and of Princeton University.

The 2012 prize winner will be announced at an awards presentation on May 2 at the Georgia State Capitol, where each finalist will be recognized for their service in their respective counties.

  • 2012 Walk-a-thon

Thanks to the very generous contributions of 465 student and faculty members, the Upper School has raised over $30,000 for the Jesse Draper Boys and Girls Club during the Walk-a-thon on March 30. This will be combined with the monies from the Primary, Lower and Middle Schools and presented to the Boys and Girls Club. Thanks to all of those involved in making this event very successful!

  • Students Walk for Jesse Draper Boys & Girls Club

Students from across the Academy raised fund by participating in the 18th annual Jesse Draper Boys & Girls Club Walk-a-thon on Friday, March 30, in support of the club neighboring Woodward's campus. Students from the Primary, Lower, Middle and Upper Schools participated in the fundraising walk.

  • Woodward Cares Sends Girl Scout Cookies to Troops

Upper School teacher Sandy Adamek coordinates "Woodward Cares," a program that sends care packages to alumni in military service. Mrs. Adamek was recently contacted by Capt. Andrew Lane '91, a member of the GA Army National Guard, who arranged for Woodward to receive Girl Scout cookies that were donated to soldiers through Operation Sandbox GA (an organization dedicated to supporting America's troups through the sending of care packages). Capt. Lane facilitated the donation of 1080 boxes of Girl Scout cookies for the Woodward Cares program.

In addition to sending the cookies to Woodward alumni in the service, Mrs. Adamek will be sending boxes of cookies to the Wounded Warriors Battalion at Eisenhower Army Medical Center in Fort Gordon, Georgia.

  • February Blood Drive

Thanks to all the students, faculty and volunteers who helped with the blood drive on February 21. Woodward was able to help collect 51 pints of blood which will help 153 people.
