International Student Program

Hundreds of students from all over the world have graduated from Woodward Academy to go on to outstanding colleges and universities around the United States since the start of our international student program in 2014. Atlanta is a culturally diverse, vibrant city as well as a major travel hub and destination, so students not only get a top-rated college preparatory education but exciting opportunities to explore. Woodward Academy provides an unparalleled educational experience preparing students for success in college and beyond.

International students are supported throughout their time here. First-year students receive an orientation to Woodward and Atlanta prior to starting school. Students are supported academically and culturally as they adjust to living and studying in the U.S. through a dedicated ESOL class available to Middle School and Upper School students. The WA Global club supports international students by fostering new friendships and community building, intercultural learning on campus, and hosting cultural events and celebrations. International students participate in off-campus field trips around Atlanta with their peers. Our goal is to make all students feel welcome and embraced, even when they are far away from home and family.

International students have the option to live with a Woodward host family. Students requiring a host family pay an additional $1,200 per month to cover their living expenses. Residing with a host family is a wonderful opportunity for intercultural exchange, immersion in U.S. culture, and forming lifelong connections.

Opening our house to an international student was the best decision ever. We gained a child and a family in China. Harry lived with us for three years and, after graduation, he didn’t move too far as he is now at Georgia Tech. Harry still has the key to our house and stops by regularly to chat, to bring us freshly baked cookies, or to spend a holiday together.”
