Once again it is football playoff time in Georgia and the Woodward Academy War Eagles are a #1 seed for the 4th year in a row. Woodward Academy will play host to Richmond Academy on Friday, November 10th in the first round of the AAAA state playoffs. Richmond Academy is the #4 seed from Region 3-AAAA and finished the regular season 5-5. The winner will advance to face the winner of West Laurens/Northside-Columbus on November 17th.

Woodward Academy's softball team qualified for the state tournament and advanced to the 2nd round for the second consecutive season this year. This week several Lady War Eagle players earned post-season accolades for their efforts. Infielder Ariana Alvord, outfielders Sarah Lewis and Quillin Perlis, catcher Jacy Watson and pitcher Anna Freeman all earned First Team All-Region Awards. In addition, Ariana was named as the Region 4-AAAA Player of the Year. Ariana and Jacy also have been nominated for potential All-State honors which will be announced later this off season.

Post season awards continue to come in for members of the Woodward volleyball team. Seniors Lauren Harrison and Anaya Martin were named to the senior All-Star team as well as being named AAAA All State players. In addition, Lauren was named the AAAA player of the year for 2nd straight season, making her Woodward's first 2-time state player of the year award winner.

The competition cheerleading team competed in the region championships last weekend at Putnam County HS. The Lady War Eagles captured 2nd place in Region 4-AAAA, qualifying the squad for sectionals at the State Championships in Columbus, GA. The team will compete on Friday, November 10th with a chance at the state championships on Saturday, November 11th.

Both the boys and the girls cross country teams finished their seasons in Carrollton at the AAAA State Championships last weekend. Led by seniors Henry Cox, Sam Riviere, and Jack Cenatempo, the boys team finished 10th out of 32 teams, marking the team's first top-10 finish since the 2014 season. The girls team, led by Brooklyn Carr and Cece Ng, finished 8th in the 32-team field. This was the team's 12th consecutive top-10 finish at the state championships. With the fall athletic seasons coming to an end, the winter sports teams at Woodward Academy are firing things up. The boys and girls swimming and diving teams kicked off their season in strong fashion last weekend at the Atlanta Kickoff Classic. The boys team captured first place while the girls team brought home the 2nd place trophy. Blessed Trinity visited Woodward Academy this past week in the first home meet of the year. The boys team defeated the Titans 210-91 while the girls squad lost a close meet 160.5-137.5. Some exciting news from the Middle School swim program, Andrew Bleuez has broken 3 school records in three meets so far this season breaking the 100 fly {56.92}, 100 freestyle {52.15}, and 100 backstroke {1:01.00} records.

Both Woodward basketball teams have been practicing for a couple weeks and recently scrimmaged Holy Innocents to help prepare for the season. The girls team will open their regular season Saturday, November 11th at Galloway while the boys open their season Friday, November 17th at Greater Atlanta Christian.

After a couple weeks of training, the War Eagle wrestling squad is ready to start their season. Woodward opens the 2017-18 season competing in the Panther Scramble at Jackson County HS on Saturday, November 11th.
