
William Jones
President Stuart Gulley presented the 2014 Distinguished Alumni Award to William Burton “Burt” Jones ’98.
Sen. Jones was elected to the Georgia State Senate in 2012 to represent District 25, which includes Baldwin, Butts, Greene, Jasper, Morgan, and Putnam counties along with portions of Bibb, Jones, and Walton. He serves as vice-chairman of the State Institutions and Properties Committee and is a member of the Insurance and Labor and Regulated Industries and Utilities committees.
Sen. Jones received a bachelor’s of science in history from the University of Georgia, where he was a four-year letterman for the football team, and attended the Hartford School of Insurance. In 2004, he founded J.P. Capital & Insurance, Inc. Sen. Jones remains an active member of the UGA Football Letterman’s Club. He is a member of the Gordon State College Foundation Board, Jackson Rotary Club, and founding member of Partners for Smart Growth. He and his wife, Jan Boswell Jones ’98, have two children, Stella and Banks.
