Boys Swimming & Diving Finish as State Runner-Up

Woodward Academy’s Boys and Girls Swimming & Diving squads recently competed at the GHSA State Championships at the Georgia Tech Aquatic Center. The boys squad finished as the 4A-5A State Runner-up with a couple new school records and a State Champion relay squad.

The boys started off with Zach Galitzin and Christian Houston representing the War Eagles in the 1-meter Diving Competition. Zach placed 5th overall while Christian recorded a 12th place finish. In the swim events, the Woodward boys had several entries competing. Senior Harrison Barnard led the War Eagles with a pair of new school records. Harrison finished 2nd in the 100 Backstroke with a record time of 51.25 and captured 4th in the 100 Fly with a new record of 51.14. Harrison also was a member the 400 Relay squad, along with Will Brevard, Ryan Cook, and Henry Nichols, finishing as the State Champion with a time of 3:13.53. Other place winners for the War Eagles were:

Josh Armour: 11th – 100 Fly
Will Brevard:  8th – 50 Free; 10th - 100 Free
Henry Nichols: 5th – 100 Free; 5th – 50 Free
Ryan Cook: 6th – 200 Individual Medley; 8th – 100 Fly
Harrison Barnard, Ryan Cook, Josh Armour, Henry Nichols: 4th in 200 Medley Relay
Will Brevard, Aaron Su, Henry Hughey, Josh Armour: 7th in 200 Free Relay

The girls squad placed 12th overall at the state finals. Campbell Masterson was the top individual finisher with a 6th place finish in the 200 Free and a 7th place finish in the 100 Free. Emma Jones placed 11th in the 500 Free and 16th in the 100 Back. The girls 200 Free relay of Reese McDowell, Ava Thompson, Elizabeth Reese, and Campbell Masterson placed 9th. The 400 Free relay of Elizabeth Reese, Ava Thompson, Emma Jones, and Campbell Masterson placed 13th while the 200 Medley relay of Emma Jones, Gabby Hill, Emma Layton, and Elizabeth Reese placed 18th

Congratulations on an outstanding season and a great finish at the State Championships! Both squads graduate just four seniors each this year making the Woodward Academy Swimming & Diving programs primed for another State Championship run in 2021-22.
