Woodward Academy’s wrestling team turned in a historic season this year capturing both the AAAA State Dual and State Traditional Championships. This year the War Eagles finished with more individual state champions (5) than any program in the entire state of Georgia.
Recently, several members of this year’s team earned invitations to the National High School Coaches Association High School Nationals in Virginia Beach, VA. Juniors Nick Master and McCoy Pace along with freshman Michael Kilic and Matthew Singleton participated in the 3-day tournament featuring the top high school wrestlers from around the country. Matthew Singleton captured the National Title at 138 pounds and won Most Outstanding Wrestler for the tournament. Michael Kilic captured the National Title at 132 pounds and Nick Masters finished 4th at 120 pounds. In addition, all three wrestlers earned All-American status.
With a roster full of young, nationally ranked wrestlers, War Eagle fans should look forward to many seasons of championship quality wrestling at Woodward Academy.
