Baseball 2020-2021

The Woodward baseball squad finished the season with a perfect 14-0 region record capturing the Region 3-AAAAA Championship. Overall, the War Eagles finished 19-12 including key wins over perennially state contenders Jefferson and Columbus. After a slow start, the War Eagles completed a stretch in early March winning 14 of 15 games including 10 straight. The War Eagles entered the AAAAA State Playoffs as the No. 1 seed from Region 3-AAAAA and hosted McIntosh in round one.

Unfortunately, the War Eagle bats went silent at the wrong time and Woodward was eliminated by the Chiefs, two games to none. Woodward was led at the plate by junior Elgin Bennett who hit a team high .466 including a team leading 34 RBIs. Senior Mark Gallups led the War Eagles with four home runs to go along with 8 doubles. Junior Chandler Pollard swept a team high 49 bases helping to lead to a team high 47 runs scored. On the mound, senior Aaron Corbin lead the War Eagles with a 2.35 ERA and a team high five wins. Senior Henry Nichols contributed with a 2.52 ERA in 27 games to go along with a .404 average at the plate.
