eSports 2020-2021

The Woodward eSports team had a great year, placing top four in the state for two of our three teams. The eSports program operated remotely and in-person during the 2020-2021 school year and had great success despite the circumstances. There is a varsity team for each game that we compete in:  League of Legends (LoL), Rocket League (RL), and Super Smash Brothers Ultimate (SSBU), which is a new addition for spring 2021.

The SSBU team was able to knock out Central Forsyth from the playoffs (1st seed) and secured third place after a close match with Westminster; a great accomplishment for their first season of competitive play. The League of Legends team also secured third place in the state playoffs with a final record of 16-6.

Schools across the state have been participating in eSports since its introduction in 2018, and the popularity of competitive gaming is on the rise. eSports has been beneficial for our players during the pandemic, providing a unique opportunity to take advantage of remote capabilities and use them to practice and improve.
