The girls cross country team had a strong season with a team consisting mostly of freshman and sophomores. Sophomore Shristi Roy broke the 20-minute barrier, running a 19:57 at McIntosh Nature Preserve in October. Roy is only the 9th Woodward athlete to do so since 2010. She also was ranked in the top 25 runners in 5A. Freshman Eve Mallis, posting a season best time of 21:37, also was ranked in the top 20 Freshman Runners in 5A. Casey Cullen and Adelaide Hanna also posted times in the 21s this season.

At the Region Meet, the girls emerged victorious and with a perfect score! Roy finished as the Region Champion with a time of 21:20. The girls’ average was 21:52, 27 seconds faster than last year. At the GHSA State Meet in Carrollton, the girls struggled with fatigue and sickness. Roy finished 62nd overall. Mallis finished in second place for the team, only seven spots behind in 22:23. The team placed 13th. Adelaide Hanna, Eva Cason, Wallace Putt, Nadia Alavi, and Casey Cullen made up the rest of the state team. Putt, the team’s only senior, completed her four-year run with an all-time best performance at the meet with a time of 23:20. The girls team adopted a new mantra this season of “Racing as a Team.”
