The girls golf team was excited to be competing this year. After the cancelation of last season, the Lady War Eagles focused their sights on another run at the GHSA State Championship. The Lady War Eagles, led by University of Texas at San Antonio signee senior Morgan Ellison and Oglethorpe University signee senior Sophia Morettini, started off strong capturing first place at several early season events.
The girls won their 20th Region/Area title in the 23-year history of girls golf in April at the Braelinn GC. Morgan Ellison was the Area low medalist carding a two-under par round of 70. Junior Aly Francis, an early Anderson University signee, was runner-up with an even par score of 72 while senior Julia White posted her best score as a War Eagle with a round of 88. Woodward’s win at the Area tournament qualified the team for the AAAAA State Championships at Green Island Country Club in Columbus. The Lady War Eagles jumped out to a large 16-stroke, day one lead and would hold on to capture their third consecutive state championship! The win also gave Woodward girls their fourth in five years! Morgan Ellison finished tied for Low Medalist in AAAAA with Aly Francis third overall.
