Arts

At every step of the way, your student will explore the arts as an essential part of their Woodward journey.

In the elementary grades, they’ll take classes in music, dance, and visual arts (even ceramics!). Young visual artists can join semester-long or year-round visual art classes in the Middle School’s dedicated arts center, with spaces for drawing and painting, ceramics, and a digital art studio as well as a gallery. Seventh and eighth graders can pursue the performing arts in band, orchestra, dance, theatre, and chorus. When your student reaches Upper School, arts opportunities expand even more, with studio classes in the visual arts and advanced performing arts courses as well as many opportunities to take their talents to the stages and galleries of Woodward Academy.

Your student will build formative relationships with teachers who are accomplished professional visual and performing artists, and they’ll gain knowledge of world cultures and art history. Alongside technical mastery, they’lll learn to express themselves creatively in ways that honor and express their individuality—their emotions, their hearts—and reflect the world around them. Woodward graduates carry these lessons with them whether they pursue creative life as a profession or continue their artistic practice to add meaning to their lives.
