The Woodward Academy Girls Track & Field squad ran away with the GHSA AAAAAA State Track & Field Championship in Rome this past weekend.  Woodward recorded a team score of 89.5 outpacing runner-up Alexander by almost 20 points (70).  The title marks the 2^nd time in the past three seasons the Girls squad has captured the state championship.

Woodward Academy captured 1^st place in five different events as well as setting new school or classification records in three events. Oliva Powell was named the AAAAAA highest point winner with her outstanding performance in both individual and relay events. 

Top Finishes include:
Olivia Powell – 1^st place 100m Hurdles (13.44, 7^th fastest in the US, 6^th fastest in GA)
Olivia Powell – 1^st place 300m Hurdles (41.26, new school and meet record, 2^nd fastest all time in GA)
4x100 Relay 1^st Place  – Olivia Powell, Chelsea Williams, Kenyah Conner, Sydney Glee (45.54, new school and meet record, 7^th fastest in GA, 9^th fastest in US)
4x200 Relay 1^st Place – Savy Seward, Madison Williams-Zachery, Makai August, Kenyah Conner (1:39.08, new school and meet record, 7^th fastest in GA)
4x400 Relay 1^st Place – Olivia Powell, Madison Williams-Zachery, Kenyah Conner, Sydney Glee (3:44.63, 10^th fastest in US)

Chelsea Williams – 2^nd place in both 100m and 200m
Sydney Glee – 3^rd place in 200m and 4^th place in 400m
Peyton Funderburk – 6^th place in Triple Jump
Jensen Warnick – 7^th place in Pole Vault

 

Members of the Boys Track & Field squad also competed this past weekend.  Michael Butler finished 4^th in the 110m Hurdles while the 4x100 team of Cameron Stephens, Carey Carter, Josiah Abdullah and Aaron Guillaume finished 7^th overall.  In the preliminaries, the 4x100 team broke the school record with a time of 42.05.
