Brothers sixth-grader Preston W. and fifth-grader Parker W. recently competed in the 2024 Georgia Swimming State Championship.
Preston competed in eight individual events and four relays. He swam the breaststroke leg on both the 200 and 400 yard medley relay teams. He scored a total of 74 points and raced 3,000 yards over the three-day competition. His results included:
- Silver medal in 200 medley relay
- Bronze medals in 400 medley relay and 400 freestyle relay
- 5th place in 200 freestyle relay
- 5th place in the 1,000 yard freestyle
- Qualified for A Finals in 50 and 100 breaststroke and placed 8th in both events
Parker competed in the 11-12 age group and anchored all of the relay teams, swimming with Preston on all of the relays. He was the only 11-year-old who qualified for A Finals in every event, and in some events, was the only 11-year-old to place in the top 20. Parker raced 3,400 yards over the three days and scored a total of 179 points. His results included:
- Silver medal in 200 medley relay
- Bronze medals in 400 freestyle relay and 400 yard medley relay
- 1st in 1,000 yard freestyle and 500 yard freestyle
- 2nd in 400 yard individual medley
- 4th in 50 yard butterfly, 100 yard butterfly, 200 yard freestyle, and 200 yard butterfly
- 5th in 100 yard freestyle
- 7th in 50 yard freestyle
