Eighth-grader Marissa Jones at the National Championship

Eighth-grader Marissa Jones was selected as the 2022 Most Valuable Player (MVP) and All-American Athlete by the AAU Junior National Volleyball Championships for the 13U Open Division. Marissa makes history as the first 13U Open player from the Southeast region to be chosen as the Most Valuable Player for the 13U Open Division. Marissa led her team as the setter and scored the championship game winning point, where they clinched the 13U Open National Title.

Marissa's team, recently featured on CBS 46 and Peachtree TV, also made history as the first 13U Open Team from Georgia to win the 13U Open National Title. They finished with a perfect record of 11-0. They competed at the AAU Junior National Volleyball Championships amongst 400 teams from across the U.S. in the 13U Division. The AAU Junior National Volleyball Championships is the world’s largest volleyball event, hosting more than 70,000 players and coaches from across the world in Orlando, Florida, July 23-July 4, 2022.   

Marissa also participated in an elite volleyball camp led by the University of Nebraska legendary Head Coach John Cook at the Bob Devaney Sports Center in Omaha, Nebraska.  

Marissa is a setter with A5 Volleyball Club in Alpharetta, Georgia, and Woodward's Junior Varsity Team.
