Seventh-grader Noah Leslie recently earned his second degree Brown Belt from Shihan Mike Martial Arts. After practicing karate for four years, Noah was awarded the title of 'Sempai.'
Only one student holds this title in a dojo during a time period. Recipients must have reached the rank of Brown Belt, while also being responsible, an example, skillful, humble, loyal, respected, kind, helpful, and eager. Sempai is a Japanese word that refers to a senior or mentor figure in a hierarchical relationship with a junior or protégé.
