Seniors Sasha Barjon and Jalen Woods

BRXND and the John R. Lewis Legacy Institute announced, on Congressman John Lewis’ birthday, Woodward seniors Sasha Barjon and Jalen Woods as honorees of the first John R. Lewis Fellows award. The exclusive gala held Saturday, February 18, at the Porsche Experience Center was themed ‘The Legacy Continues.’ The event brought together political, business, and community leaders from Troy, Alabama, to Atlanta, Georgia.

The awards were presented by the John R. Lewis Legacy Institute and honored individuals who embody the highest values of Congressman John R. Lewis and continue his legacy. Sasha and Jalen were honored for their work with BRXND, an organization founded by Woodward students focused on preparing student-athletes for their futures in sport and beyond.

Founded by Woodward students Sasha Barjon, Jalen Woods, and Damari Alston (now at Auburn University), BRXND prepares student-athletes and emerging leaders for their futures in sport and beyond. BRXND is a community of student-athletes whose lives are changed by remarkable experiences, while preparing for college. BRXND empowers student-athletes through life changing experiences, and leadership opportunities, using branding, communications, finance, entrepreneurship, and executive training to better prepare them for their future pursuits in and beyond sports. The recently opened BRXND Sportsplex, a 15,000 sq ft training facility, was created to better serve and prepare BRXND student-athletes.
