Upper School Counselor Jodi Hester Wins Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Champion Award
  • upper school

Jodi Hester, College Counselor in the Upper School, won the 2022 Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Champion Award, presented by the Association of College Counselors in Independent Schools (ACCIS). The national award is presented to an ACCIS member with more than five years of college counseling experience. According to the organization, DEI Champion Award recipients have engaged in DEI initiatives in their school community and beyond the institutional level. They are also visible in ACCIS, the National Association for College Admission Counseling (NACAC), their NACAC affiliate, or the greater community. They demonstrate a deep understanding of and commitment to DEI work as an educator.

Jodi was nominated by her Upper School counseling colleague Jesse Bowen, who as part of that nomination said, "Throughout the last seven years, I’ve witnessed Jodi use her position to advocate  for our most vulnerable students. She is the voice who speaks up during faculty meetings and asks, ‘Is this fair; is this equitable for all our students?’ At a school like ours, with decades of traditions and over a hundred years of history, change isn’t always easy. When change is made, however, it’s because of the advocacy of people like Jodi Hester.”

Congratulations Jodi!
