A Message from the Athletic Director

Athletic Director Jose Fernandez recaps the tremendous Fall 2022 athletic season at Woodward.

Boys Cross Country

Boys Cross Country

The boys cross country team posted the best team average since 2019, with six out of the top seven athletes running under 18 minutes this season.



The football team completed another outstanding season with an 11-2 overall record, capturing the Region Championship, and advancing to the AAAAAA State Quarterfinals.

Girls Cross Country

Girls Cross Country

The girls cross country team welcomed strong, new members this year, and finished as Region Champions with a near perfect score.

Senior Parker Pape shares about his final season with the Cross Country team after setting personal records in all nine meets this year.



The softball team finished with a 15-13 record, and earned a two-seed spot for the Super-Regionals in the GHSA State Playoffs.

Stay on Target

Riflery is an intensive, rules-heavy sport. Every component is regulated down to the millimeter, with team members training in the fall for a competitive season that runs November through February.



Volleyball went 8-0 in region play and won the region tournament, clinching the region championship for the 10th straight season.

2021-2022 Season

2022 Spring


The baseball squad finished the season with a perfect 14-0 region record capturing the Region 3-AAAAA Championship for the second consecutive year.

Boys Golf

The War Eagles finished third overall in the AAAAA State Championships at the Okefenokee Country Club.

Boys Lacrosse

Competing in one of the toughest regions in A-AAAAA, the War Eagles qualified for the state championship and advanced to the Elite 8 before falling to Starr's Mill.

2022 Winter

Boys Basketball 

The 2021-2022 War Eagles completed another successful season and qualified for the state tournament for the 5th consecutive year.

Boys Wrestling 

The team finished in the top four for both the traditional and state tournament. In the state dual tournament, Woodward finished in 2nd place and three seniors were crowned individual state champions.

Game Day Cheer 

For the first time in Academy history, Woodward competed in the GHSA Game Day Cheer Competition this season.
