Middle School Curriculum
Curriculum
Let's face it: not everyone is as good at calculus as they are at 20th-century literature. At Woodward your child will be able to mix and match the level of challenge for their courses to help them flourish in areas where they have strong aptitude and to get support in areas where they need more reinforcement.
We take the time to get to know your child so they can grow to their fullest potential. If your child is particularly strong in sciences, we want to make sure they are placed at a more intensive level with our honors preparatory track. But perhaps they need extra reinforcement in English? We can support them there, too, with our college preparatory or enriched preparatory tracks where they can continue to build their self-confidence in the subject. It’s a balancing act to get it right, but at Woodward, we’ll meet your child where they are and give them the tools they need to succeed in school and in life.
More About Our Academic Tracks
College Preparatory (CP)
- Standard, academically rigorous college preparatory work. Your child will learn critical reading, writing, thinking, and computation skills that will prepare them to continue the study at the college or university level.
- Teachers provide structure and guidance, emphasize mastery of skills, and differentiate instruction to meet the needs of a variety of learners.
Enriched Preparatory (EP)
Honors Preparatory (HP)
- HP courses are intended for advanced, ambitious students who are willing and able to complete more assignments independently, in greater depth, and with more analysis and critical thinking.
- If your child would like to graduate with honors they should take some honors-level core courses by the end of 10th grade.
- If your child is successful in HP courses, often students culminate the progression of their study by taking AP coursework.
Transition Prep (TP)
Our students learn the same demanding college-preparatory curriculum as their Woodward peers in the mainstream track, but do so while cultivating the tools and strategies needed to convert different learning preferences into confidence, social and emotional stability, and tremendous academic success.
