Performing and visual arts programs are offered beginning at the earliest grades. At the Primary School, our youngest students enjoy dedicated music, dance, and visual art classes as well as opportunities to gain experience performing before an audience. Fourth through sixth graders in the Lower School explore drawing, painting, ceramics, printmaking, and weaving, and they may choose to take chorus, orchestra, or band throughout the year. In seventh and eighth grade, students can take year-round art in our dedicated Middle School arts building, a facility with four ceramic kilns, a digital photography studio, 3-D printing, a gallery for displaying student work, and more. Middle School and Upper School students take band, orchestra, drama, and dance classes in the studios of Richardson Hall. Our Upper School visual and performing arts programs are award-winning. Students in band, orchestra, dance, and choral ensembles perform throughout the year, while young thespians take the stage in fall plays and spring musicals. Upper School visual arts includes a strong focus on the fine arts with emphasis on creative exploration and refinement of technique.

All of our students learn from teachers who are accomplished artists and musicians, and they gain an appreciation and understanding for culture and the history of art. Among Georgia schools with fine arts programs, Woodward Academy has long been recognized for its strength in curriculum and its broad range of offerings in performing arts and visual arts.
