Athletic Director Jose Fernandez congratulates the Academy’s Winter 2023-2024 teams, student-athletes, and coaches for their achievements and upholding Woodward’s tradition of competing with honor.
The War Eagles made a historic run to the GHSA Class 6A Final Four and secured the 2024 Region 3- AAAAAA Championship en route.
The 2023-2024 boys wrestling season saw great success, finishing in 3rd place in the AAAAAA State Dual Tournament and as State Runner-Up in the AAAAAA Traditional State Tournament.
The girls basketball team finished the 2023-2024 season with a 24-6 overall record, earned the 2024 Region Champion title, and made their way to the Elite 8 of the state tournament.
The girls wrestling team finished their season strong with Area 3 Dual and Traditional Championships, GHSA Sectional “A” Championship, and a state runner-up finish.
The boys and girls swimming & diving team capped off their successful season with top team finishes at the GHSA 6A State Meet, including RJ Snyder’s 1st place finish in the diving competition—the Academy’s first since 1972.

The top five runners on the boys cross country team broke 18 minutes this season, with four students running personal bests to achieve that goal. The team finished as region champions.

The Clay Target team earned a 4th place finish at the 2023 GIAA Clay Target State Championship in Savannah.
The War Eagles enjoyed a historic 2023 season, playing in the State Championship game for the first time in 43 years after earning their second consecutive Region 3-AAAAAA Championship.
The Game Day Cheer squad competed in the GHSA State Game Day Championship and placed in the top 10 of 30 teams.
The girls cross country team hit their stride on September 16, when they finished as the runner-up at the North Georgia Invitational in Gainesville and went on to finish as region champions.
The War Eagles finished the 2023 season with a 17-10 overall record, qualifying for the GHSA state playoffs for the 12th consecutive year.
The volleyball team went 7-0 in region play and earned an 11th straight region title. The War Eagles finished with a 22-15 record and an overall 18th place in the state tournament.
The Woodward baseball squad finished the season with a perfect 14-0 region record capturing the Region 3-AAAAAA Championship for the third consecutive year.

The eSports team showed a lot of growth this year and introduced three new teams, earning a top 20 finish in the GHSA Smash Ultimate Varsity League.
The boys golf squad turned in another quality season in 2023 but fell just short of advancing to the AAAAAA State Championship tournament.
The girls golf team had another wonderful season, advancing to the State Championship and finishing in 10th place overall.
The boys lacrosse team finished 8-12 overall, recording a 3-1 area record to secure a home playoff game.

Girls wrestling ended the season with six state qualifiers and two state runners-up after winning area and state sectional titles during the season.

The boys cross country team posted the best team average since 2019, with six out of the top seven athletes running under 18 minutes this season.
The Clay Target team concluded their 2022 season at the GIAA Clay Target State Championship held at Forest City Gun Club in Savannah, Ga., ending with a 4th place team finish overall.
The football team completed another outstanding season with an 11-2 overall record, capturing the Region Championship, and advancing to the AAAAAA State Quarterfinals.
The girls cross country team welcomed strong, new members this year, and finished as Region Champions with a near perfect score.
