Softball

After graduating seven seniors in 2021, the 2022 softball team enjoyed new chemistry and refreshing dynamics this season. The War Eagles worked hard in the off-season and practiced at an extremely high level throughout the year, finishing with a 15-13 record. With a lineup full of young talent, the War Eagles battled to compete in the Region 3 AAAAAA Championship. After losing to Alcovy in the regular season 4-3 and 6-3, the team faced them for a third time in the Region Championship game, ending with a heartbreaking 8-7 loss in 9 innings. The War Eagles earned a two-seed spot for the Super-Regionals in the GHSA State Playoffs and competed in two games at South Effingham High School, where their season ended.

Key contributors to this year's team were sophomore Gali Nelson in the circle with a 2.8 ERA and .333 batting average; freshman Cymone Woodfaulk, 3rd base, had a .327 batting average; junior Sophia Morton, the utility, had a .420 batting average. In addition, sophomore Katie Weathersby, right fielder, had a .372 batting average. Last but certainly not least, the softball program was led by seniors Ava Thompson, shortstop, who had a .463 batting average, and Liza Mobley, catcher, with a .328 batting average. Under Ava and Liza’s contributions and leadership, the team experienced great success on and off the field of play throughout the season.
