Horizons Atlanta at Woodward Academy

Horizons Atlanta at Woodward Academy is part of a national, award-winning summer program with a mission to close the opportunity gap for underserved students through high-quality academics in an engaging six-week summer enrichment program on a private school or university campus, at no cost to families.

Horizons Atlanta at Woodward is one of 10 sites in the Atlanta Horizons network. Students return each summer from Kindergarten through their 8th grade year to build community with teachers from both the local schools and Woodward Academy. Each year they enjoy STEM activities, music, art, daily swimming lessons, and weekly field trips to locations such as Kids Gym USA, Zoo Atlanta, and Serenbe.

Developed by experts in the classroom from Woodward and local public schools, the curriculum offers engaging interactive learning with an interdisciplinary approach. Weekly themes connect STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math), reading, and the arts, to ensure a deeper level of learning. And with a 5:1 student to teacher ratio, students experience the individualized attention they need to achieve greater academic success, increased confidence, and become college bound, career-ready, globally-competitive individuals.

Horizons Summer Volunteer Application

Horizons Atlanta at Woodward Academy would not be successful without a team of dedicated volunteers! Each summer Upper School students assist the teaching teams throughout the six-week program, earning up to 20 service hours. Whether contributing to the implementation of curriculum, instructing in the pool, or helping during lunch time and field trips, student volunteers are vital in creating the one-of-a-kind fun and educational atmosphere that transforms the lives of our students from Asa G. Hilliard.

"Although Woodward is a private school, we also have a public purpose—a moral obligation—to serve the needs of our local community. Spend one hour with Horizons Atlanta at Woodward and you will see directly the impact of the program on the children who participate and on our students who volunteer. Lives are changed and our community enriched."
