2019 Silent Voices Wins in Design Excellence Competition
The 2019 issue of the Upper School literary magazine, Silent Voices, won a top award in the Printing & Imaging Association of Georgia's (PIAG) annual Design Excellence Competition. Silent Voices won Best of Category in the Juvenile Books (digital printing) group. Only one award is given in each category for the entire state of Georgia. PIAG’s annual design competition is open to students and industry professionals from across the state of Georgia.
The cover of Silent Voices featured the Ann & Ben Johnson '61 Alumni Center and showcased elements of the home as section dividers printed on vellum pages. The book "Mind Palace" was built around the concept of the method of loci. "Loci" is Latin for "places." The method of loci is "a strategy of memory enhancement which uses visualizations of familiar spatial environments in order to enhance the recall of information. The method of loci is also known as the memory journey, memory palace, or mind palace technique." The yellow house and it's interiors were mined for what memories, feelings, and creative expressions were inherent in those spaces.
