Junior Ruijia Cao was recognized as the fifth place individual at the Georgia Tech High School Mathematics Competition (GTHSMC) on April 13. Participants in the individual competition are judged on their performance writing proofs for the solutions to six difficult free-response problems, rather than a multiple choice test.
Each spring semester the Georgia Tech School of Mathematics hosts the Institute's annual High School Mathematics Competition. The competition covers a wide range of high school math topics, including algebra, Euclidean geometry, combinatorics, number theory, and basic calculus. GTHSMC is known as one of the most competitive high school competitions drawing top competitors from across the state.
