The Robert W. Woodruff Marching Band recently competed at Monroe Area High School in the Hurricane Classic Marching Competition on October 26. All band sections including Drumline, Colorguard, Drum Majors, and Band received Superior Ratings, with Colorguard and Band also winning 1st in Class awards. The marching band also was awarded 1st place in the Silver Championship Division made up of all A and AA bands at the contest.
At the end of September, the band also competed at the Stateline Showdown Marching Band Competition at Heard County High School. The Drumline received an Excellent Rating and 1st in Class. The Drum Majors, Colorguard, and Band received Superior Ratings and 1st in Class.
The band has been competing this fall with a show entitled, "Outbreak." The show is designed around the idea that patient zero (one of the drum majors) is infected with the "green flu" which eventually spreads to the entire band. During the show, band members indicate becoming "infected" by altering their costumes with different color plumes, arm bands, and shoulder sashes.
The band is led by Director Bands Kenneth Beard.
