Woodward's Upper School Service Leadership Board teamed up with Rebuilding Together Atlanta and the NFL to kickoff Super Bowl weekend February 2 to rebuild six homes in the Just Us neighborhood in the west side of Atlanta. Just Us is a historically black neighborhood developed in the 1950s for African-American residents during the height of the Civil Rights era. Now, descendants of the once thriving community find their neighborhood in decline due to passing time and lack of resources, putting them at risk of losing the homes their families built.
Upper School Teaching and Learning Specialist Alex Bragg, sits on the Governing Board of Rebuilding Together, and worked over the last year to plan the Kickoff to Rebuild event, partnering with David Roth, Woodward's Service Leadership Board Coordinator, and Upper School administrators to involve students in the important community event. Students spent the day painting the interior of a house, landscaping, putting together neighborhood benches, and assembling Safe and Healthy Home Kits for all residents of the neighborhood.
