Seventh-Grader Wins Geography Bee

Seventh-grader Michael Wu recently won the Middle School Geography Bee sponsored by the National Geographic Society. Samanyu Gangappa, 8th grade, earned second place with Ajay Iyer and Eesh Trivedi, 8th graders, in a third place tie. In order to qualify for the State Geography Bee, Michael will take a test prepared by the National Geographic Society. Winners of the state bees advance to a national competition held in Washington, D.C.

Each year thousands of schools in the United States participate in the National Geographic Bee using materials prepared by the National Geographic Society. The contest is designed to inspire students to be curious about the world. Schools with students in grades four through eight are eligible to participate in the competition.
