Seventh-Grader Wins National Volleyball Qualifier

Seventh-grader Marissa J. competed at the Big South National Volleyball Qualifier April 15-17, with her 13-1 Karen Team. Marissa is a setter for the A5 Volleyball Club team out of Alpharetta, Ga. There were 120 teams from across the U.S. that competed on the 13U Division. Marissa helped her team clinch Gold with a 9-0 record to earn 1st place on the 13 Open Gold Bracket. The Karen 13-1 Team is only the 3rd 13U team from Georgia to win 1st place on the 13 Open Gold Bracket at the Big South National Qualifier. As a result of their victory, the team is double qualified to compete on the 13 Open Level at USAV Nationals this summer in Indianapolis June 22-26, 2022. CBS 46 and Peachtree News highlighted the team’s victory along with three other team winners during their April 18 broadcast.

The Big South National Qualifier was established in 1988 and is the largest indoor girl junior volleyball tournament held over a single weekend in North America. The tournament attracts more than 45,000 spectators and more than 1,200 teams.

Marissa also competed at the Sunshine Classic National Qualifier in Orlando, Fla., April 1-3, and the Nike Mideast National Qualifier in St. Louis, Mo., March 11-13, with Karen 13-1 Team. At both national tournaments Marissa helped her team earn Bronze and take 3rd place on the 13 Open Gold Bracket. On a national level, Marissa’s team is currently ranked 4th out of 3,222 teams for the 13U Division.
