UNICEF Club on Advocacy Day

On March 24, Woodward UNICEF UNITE club board members Callie Mitchell ’23, Gabrielle Tyndall ’23, and Jay Yoon ’23 had the opportunity to converse with congresspeople and their offices about UNICEF issues during UNICEF Advocacy Day. UNICEF is the United Nations Children’s Fund, an agency of the UN that specifically focuses on preserving children’s rights and providing necessary resources like food, water, healthcare, and education.

UNICEF Advocacy Day is an annual event hosted by UNICEF USA with volunteers, club members, and employees of UNICEF across the nation fighting for UNICEF funding. Participants advocated for an increase in the US government’s contribution to UNICEF funds, passing of the Keeping Girls in Schools Act, and the Mental Health Equity Act.

Woodward students conversed with offices of Senators and Representatives from both parties, including Senator Cindy-Hyde Smith (MS), Senator Jon Ossoff (GA), Senator Richard Shelby (AL), Senator Raphael Warnock (GA), Representative Lucy McBath (GA), and Senator Bill Cassidy (LA). They also met with Senator John Boozman (AR) to discuss important UNICEF issues.
