Woodward North Fifth-Grader Advances to State Geo Bee

Fifth-grader Gianluca S. was named the Woodward North National Geography Bee school champion. Gianluca has qualified to compete in the National Geography Bee State Competition to be held March 27 in Milledgevile, Georgia. Fifth-graders Aleena S. and Jack K. place second and third, respectively.

Students who compete at the State Competition will be in the running to receive a top prize of $1,000 and a trip to Washington, D.C., to participate in the National Championship.

The contest, prepared by the National Geographic Society, is designed to encourage teachers to include geography in their classrooms, inspire and reward students' curiosity about the world, and increase public awareness about geography.
